Introduction

Caroli disease is a rare inherited disorder characterized by cystic dilatation (or ectasia) of the bile ducts within the liver.

Symptoms

Patients experience episodes of cholestasis and abdominal pain as well as development of stones within the bile ducts.

Causes

Underlying cause of Caroli disease is poorly understood and believed to be of genetic nature.

Around 1:100’000
